District Collector Rajarshi Shah stated that prioritizing the health of students is essential for them to excel in academics, sports and other fields.
On Wednesday, the Collector, accompanied by Municipal Chairperson Bhandari Anusha, attended an eye screening camp, a school health program, and a ‘Vana Mahotsavam’ (tree plantation drive) event held at the PM SHRI Government High School (Gazetted No. 1) in Bhukthapur.
During the visit, the Collector inspected the ‘Waste to Wonder’ garden set up on the school premises and commended the staff for their innovative creation using waste materials. Subsequently, he planted saplings and watered them as part of the tree plantation drive.
After inspecting the eye screening camp, the Collector mentioned that free eye examinations and health screenings are being conducted for students in government schools across the district in collaboration with the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute. He assured that students diagnosed with vision problems would receive necessary spectacles, medical treatment, and even surgeries, if required, free of cost.
Emphasizing that regular attendance is crucial for students’ academic progress, the Collector urged parents and teachers to pay special attention to ensuring that every student attends school for at least 200 days during the current academic year. It was announced that, as an incentive to students, a free pair of blue uniforms made from high-quality Mafatlal fabric would be distributed by August 15th.
The Collector advised everyone to maintain personal hygiene and observe ‘Dry Day’ every Friday to prevent seasonal diseases during the monsoon. He emphasized the importance of not storing water for long periods and ensuring that drinking water containers are kept covered. He urged the public to remain vigilant against diseases like Dengue and Chikungunya. Additionally, he stated that the construction of pending additional classrooms in schools would be completed soon.
Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Chairperson Bhandari Anusha remarked that a school is akin to a temple and that respecting teachers is the responsibility of every student. She extended her greetings to teachers and students on the occasion of Guru Purnima. She noted that the government is providing modern facilities in public schools and urged students and parents to make the best use of them. She also instructed teachers to take measures to keep school premises clean during the monsoon season.
District Educational Officer Madhavi, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Sadhana, Ward Councilor Srinivas, Headmistress Neeladevi, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute coordinators Venkataramana and Ranjith, along with teachers, students, and others, participated in the event.
